In Paradise: The Story of the Burden of the Macbeth

All the way back from the moment that he was discovered dead, the young Macbeth had already been preparing to kill his father and step-aunt, John Donne. As a matter of fact, this play on the image of the doomed king’s head being raised above the funeral pile. This idea, in turn, suggests that the final act of committing the evil that doomed them all must have come from the Macbeth himself.

It follows then that the play is about the instigation of the Macbeth to have the earldom of Scotland succession transferred to the younger son of Sir Francis Lawrence. At first glance, it may seem that this seems like a straightforward story. However, there is more to it than merely the similarity between the two individuals. There is a deeper significance attached to the historical aspect of this story that guides us on the dark side of the matter.
